Surviving Belsen

The Story of Belsen

After liberating Belsen concentration camp in April and May 1945, soldiers from the 113th Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment The Royal Artillery wanted their experiences to be recorded and made known to the general public. In response to this request, their Adjutant, Captain Andrew Pares, wrote 'The Story of Belsen'. Extracts from the source have been used throughout Surviving Belsen; here it is reproduced in full, except for some images. To ensure that young children do not see these graphic images by accident, they have not been included. However, they can be made available by the Record Office on request.
