| Twizel Castle is an 18th century folly. It was started in about 1770 by Sir Francis Blake, but never finished. At the heart of the building is a much older structure, that of a medieval house. It had walls about 1.5m thick and some its features can still be seen through the later work, including doorways and blocked windows. The folly is a long, rectangular building, with two wings on the north side and circular towers at each corner. It is roofless and stands two storeys high, although it originally stood to five storeys. Just to the north of the folly are earthwork remains of a garden and deserted medieval village. This is a Scheduled Monument and Grade II* Listed Building protected by law. See also: Source of Reference Local History of Duddo Location of this site on a map, with option to view historical maps.
