| Carelgate was a road used from medieval times until the 18th century as the main road from Corbridge to Hexham. It ran along the north bank of the Tyne and passing south of Corbridge Mill it crossed the Cor Burn. On reaching Shorden Brae it turned west to Hexham. It was finally closed in the late 19th century. Little can be seen at the site today. See also: Source of Reference Local History of Corbridge Location of this site on a map, with option to view historical maps.
