Corbridge Market Cross (Corbridge)

The market cross at Corbridge is made from objects from several different periods. It stands against the churchyard wall. The base is a worn circular stone probably from a Roman column. The shaft of the cross was of 13th century date and the head is of 18th century date. The cross used to stand on a Roman altar in the market place, but in 1807 it was moved to Newcastle. It finally returned to Corbridge in the 20th century. The cross is a Grade II listed building protected by law.
