| A pair of post-medieval bastles stand side by side at Alton Side. They were built in the 16th century and altered in the 18th and 20th centuries. The western bastle is the oldest building and was extended to the east to make another bastle. A number of original features survive, including the walls between 1m and 1.2m thick, as well as a blocked first floor doorway. This is a Grade II Listed Building protected by law.
