Iron Age settlement (Eglingham)

The earthwork remains of an Iron Age defended settlement lie above the Charlton Burn. The enclosure is roughly triangular in plan. The natural defences on the south-west and north sides are supplemented by a manmade bank and ditch that also protect the remaining sides. Two original entrances lead into the enclosure where there is a linear bank, but no trace of house platforms or hut circles. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
