| Acton Hall is an 18th and 19th century house but its origins lie in the 17th century, or possibly even earlier. A survey of 1585 mentions a ruined bastle at Acton and there is evidence that some of the fabric of the building very old. Study of the building has shown there are parts that pre-date the 18th century, such as the outline of a gable end on the west side of the house. Although it cannot be proved, the first phase of the building may well have been a defensible building, built about 1600. This is a Grade II Listed Building protected by law. See also:
