| A survey of 1561 mentioned a tower at Goswick. However, the exact location of the site is unknown. Although a mansion house stood on the edge of the sea, close to the mouth of the brook it is not certain that this contained the remains of the tower. Fortified towers were common in this area in the late medieval and early post-medieval period, acting as defences against raids from the Scots and local outlaws.
