| Horton Castle was first mentioned in a list of castles from 1415. In 1542 it was described as a ‘great tower’. By 1715 it was in a ruined state, though it was repaired and from 1740 to 1808 it was used as a house. It was finally demolished in the early 19th century. Nothing can be seen at the site today except for a few fragments of worked stone.
