Hillfort north of Callaly Castle (Whittingham and Callaly)

The hillfort north of Callaly Castle was once known as Old Hag. It is an Iron Age monument which lies near the Callaly Burn but it is not in a particularly defensive location. The hillfort comprises an oval enclosure, measuring about 60m by 40m, with scarped banks up to 1.2m high around it. The original entrance lies through the east side. Immediately to the south is an outer work which is marked by a ditch and counterscarp bank. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
