| Medieval documents show that there was a tower at Lanton in the 14th century. It is mentioned in 1396 and again in 1496, when it was destroyed by King James VI. After this it was restored but by 1715 it had fallen into ruins again. Today, the tower survives as a mound of earth and stones over 2m high with traces of a rectangular building on one side.
