Keys to the Past

The Hall (Seaton Delaval)

The Hall at Seaton Delaval was built between 1718 and 1729. It was designed by the famous architect Sir John Vanbrugh for Admiral George Delaval. It has a large central main block with small turrets on each corner. Stables and a kitchen on the east and west are linked to the main building by an arcade. The building was damaged by fire in 1752 and restored in 1814-15. The main block was again damaged by a fire in 1822 and it is still an empty ruin. This is a Grade I listed building protected by law.
