| Records of Thornbrough exist from the 12th century onwards, when it lay on the boundary between the royal manor of Corbridge and the barony of Bolbec. A hamlet existed here in 1296, when 12 people were assessed for tax purposes, and eight holdings are recorded at the end of the 16th century. By the 18th century there were four farms in the township. Today there is one farm and several cottages. A few earthworks may be the remains of medieval buildings and enclosures.
