| Bloody Acres is traditionally held to be the site of a battle. Although the exact date is not known it was probably an early medieval battle, possibly between Raegnald, the Norse king of Northumbria and Prince Ealdred, Constantine of Scotland and Aelfred of Chester-le-Street, AD914.
