| This is the site of a series of impressive lime kilns. They were built for the Stanhope and Tyne Railroad Company in 1835. The coal and limestone was fed from the top, where a series of small tramways brought stone from where it was offloaded from the railway. The lime made in these kilns was mainly used to improve soil quality.
