Westgate, Gate Castle; remains of C15 castle? (Westgate)

This ruined building was the southern gate of the medieval (1066 to1540) deer park of Weardale. The remains form a rectangle and in places the walls stand up to 1.5m high. The foundations of a possible extension can also be seen. It is probably of 15th century date.
