Turret 18a (Matfen)

This is the site of a Roman turret on Hadrian's Wall. It was partly excavated in 1931. Remains of Iron Age cord rig lie beneath the Roman site. No remains of the turret are now visible, and the site is covered by a modern road and grass verge. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
