Keys to the Past

Milecastle 18 (Matfen)

This Roman milecastle stands close to the Robin Hood Inn, where a road turns south to a farmhouse. It was excavated in 1931 and the walls were recorded. There are now no remains to be seen. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
