Colt Crag Reservoir (Chollerton; Bavington)

The reservoir was built by Bateman and Hill in 1884. It is part of a larger impounding scheme built in the second half of the 19th century for the Newcastle and Gateshead Water Company. Although work started in 1863 a series of problems meant that it did not come into service until 1884. Modifications made since that date have also encountered problems, but despite this it still remains in use.
