Milecastle 45, Hadrian's Wall (Greenhead)
Milecastle 45 stands in a prominent position on the top of Walltown Nick. Although it has been robbed of its stone in the past, the outline of its walls can still be seen. The robber trenches, where the stone was removed, and the nearby mounds of spoil from digging survive as earthworks. Large stones from the milecastle's gateway can be seen built into a field wall near Walltown Farm. This is a Scheduled Monument protected by law.
