Medieval hospital (Craster; Embleton)

A medieval hospital, possibly for lepers, is known to have existed at a place called Spitaldene in the Embleton area in the early 14th century. It was founded before 1314 but it is not known who it was dedicated to or when it was closed. The name Spitalford, to the south of Embleton, may give a clue to its location.
