Iron Age or Roman enclosure at Frank Plantation (Longhoughton)
Between 1500 and 3000 years ago, during what archaeologists call the Iron Age or the Roman periods, people lived in stone round houses in a long narrow rectangular enclosure surrounded by a bank and a ditch. The enclosure ditch can be seen today as a cropmark on an aerial photograph.
