Elford Deserted Village (Beadnell)

Elford now only consists of one farm and a few cottages, but it was once a village. A document from 1778 records that at there were at least 18 cottages. A map drawn a few years earlier shows a hamlet and a mansion. Villages often shrank in size or disappeared completely after the medieval period. Often, such as here at Elford, only a farm now remains.
