Burnt mounds, Bolton Moor (Hedgeley)

Four mounds of burnt stones and charcoal lie near a dried out stream. Archaeologists think that these mounds may be the remnants of a process which used fire-heated stones to heat up water. These earthworks are now covered in peat and grass. The mounds are at least 2000 years old.
