Cup and ring marked stone, found near The Ringses (Hedgeley)
A cup and ring marked stone was found near The Ringses Hedgeley, by workmen in 1864. Neolithic people carved cup and ring marks on natural rocks all over this region. Archaeologists think they may be connected to the religion of the people who carved them, or to land boundaries. The stone was taken to Alnwick Castle Museum, but it is now lost.
|Historical period:||Neolithic (4000BC to 2200BC)|
