New Hartley Colliery (Seaton Valley)

This was the site of New Hartley Colliery. In 1862 an accident happened at the mine, killing over 200 miners. This led to a review of safety measures in mines and an Act of Parliament was passed saying that all mines should have at least two shafts for ventilation.
