Keys to the Past

Possible Roman period native settlement at Mitford Steads South (Mitford)

Two roughly rectangular enclosures, one inside the other and both surrounded by ditches, were created here at an unknown date in the past. Inside the inner enclosure, traces of a circular structure can be seen. The enclosures can be seen as cropmarks on an aerial photograph. Archaeologists think the enclosures may be the remains of a Roman period native settlement.
