Roman milestone (Stamfordham; Horsley)
A Roman milestone was found here in 1813, close to Hadrian's Wall. The milestone was cut into pieces to dig it out of the ground. The pieces have since been lost. We know what the milestone looked like from unpublished sketches drawn by Hodgson, a 19th century historian.
