Roman bridge remains at Hunwick Gill (Hunwick)

To either side of the Hunwick Gill ravine are the remains of the Roman road Dere Street. The road is raised on a platform to either side of the gill and retains its alignment, suggesting the presence of a bridge. No dressed stones have been found here and it is thought that the bridge was constructed of timber to join the earthwork abutments. (1)
