The Street (Bowes)
The Roman (AD43 to 410) road from Bowes to Binchester joined the main Roman road north just to the south of Bishop Aukland. In places modern roads and footpaths run along its course. In other places, it can only be seen as a crop mark. It crosses the River Tees at Startforth.
