Keys to the Past

Cup-marked boulder, Knott Hill, Marwood Parish, Barnard Castle (Marwood)

A rock with three large cup marks was found here in 1995. These carvings were probably carved in the early Bronze Age or late Neolithic. The purpose of these names is not clear though they may have had a religious function. This is a Scheduled Ancient Monument protected by law (2).
