Keys to the Past

Barningham , St. Michael's (Barningham)

These are the remains of the earlier church of St Michael at Barningham, which was demolished before the current church was built. It was probably built in the 12th century, as stone carvings of this date have been reused in the modern church. Today, all that remains is a low platform. On this platform the remains of a number of medieval gravestones can be seen. This is a Scheduled Ancient Monument protected by law.
