Barnard Castle, St. John's Hospital (Barnard Castle)

This is building is on the site of a medieval hospital. It was founded c.1230 by John Baliol, and was described as a 'low thatched building, containing one room only called the bedehouse'. In the 15th century it may have had its own church. Until 1950 it was used as a house though it is now a workshop.
