St. John's Church, Kirk Merrington (Kirk Merrington)

This is the site of the medieval church of St John's. It was originally built in the 11th or early 12th century. William Cumyn fortified it in 1143-4, when the chancel was probably destroyed. The church was dismantled and rebuilt in 1850, though the Norman arches were built into the 19th century fabric.
