War Memorial (All Wars), outside St. Clare's Church, St. Cuthbert's Way, Newton Aycliffe (Newton Aycliffe)
Three tall pieces of rough Cumbrian slate rising from a raised bed of upended slates on the eastern side of St. Cuthbert's Way outside St. Clare's Church.
On the Remembrance Stone: "At/ the going / down of / the sun / and in the / morning / we will / remember / them".
On the Peace stone: "Pax / crying peace / not as / refuge / from / pressure / or pain / but / for its / absolute self". On the edge: "We will remember".
On Pinnacle stone: "It is / in the / mind / and / heart / that / wars must / end".
Commissioned by Newton Aycliffe Rotary Club and unveiled in 2008. The slates were lifted into position free-of-charge by a local crane company, Ross and Wright. (1-2)
