First World War memorial plaque set into a stone wall within the same block-paved area as the war memorial cenotaph opposite Gregson Terrace in the village centre. The wall has two wings projecting either side of a taller central section that carries a marble plaque. The plaque is dedicated in gilded lettering: "To the sacred memory of / William McNally, V.C., M.M. & Bar / 1894 - 1976 / who by his courage and unselfish / devotion to duty during the Great War / 1914-18 brought honour and glory to this / village and his regiment". The plaque is decorated with the Victoria Cross (V.C.) and regimental badge of the Yorkshire Regiment (Green Howards). William McNally actually unveiled the memorial cenotaph in 1922.

A wrought iron railing is located in front of the plaque to which poppy wreaths can be attached. In 2007-8, the area of the cenotaph and the wall was refurbished; this memorial had the addition of benches at either end of the wall and a small border of flowers creating a miniature memorial garden in front.
